Wondering if you need our Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Program?
Ask yourself these questions:
-
- Am I using the bathroom so often it disrupts my day?
-
- Do I find myself noting all bathroom locations when I enter an unfamiliar building?
-
- Do I find it hard to make it to the bathroom, even having an accident sometimes?
-
- Am I using pads or other protection to absorb bladder leakage?
-
- Do I leak when sneezing, coughing, lifting heavy objects or laughing?
-
- Am I experiencing pressure or bulging in my vagina, especially after standing for long periods?
-
- Is my urine stream weak or does it turn into a spray?
-
- Do I get up more than twice during the night to go to the bathroom?
If you answered yes to any of these, you should talk to your doctor at The Woman’s Group about your concerns. The Woman’s Group Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Program addresses problems with lower pelvic muscles that can cause incontinence, poor urine stream or painful intercourse. The pelvic floor consists of a group of muscles that surround your pelvic opening and keep your pelvic organs in place. Sometimes these muscles and tissues can become weak and this may in turn result in incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse or other issues.
If your doctor feels it necessary, it may be recommend to undergo urodynamic testing. This test includes two separate visits, the first lasting about 15 minutes and the second from 30 to 45 minutes. On the first visit, the patient will need to arrive with a comfortably full bladder. A urine sample will be taken and the nurse will review instructions on preparation for the second visit. The actual urodynamics test will be conducted on the second visit. During this visit, catheters will be inserted to record the pressure in and around the bladder and to allow for measurement of any leaking that may occur during the filling process. Throughout the test the patient will be asked to describe bladder sensations and to cough as to put pressure on the bladder as to cause a leak. There are no restrictions after having a urodynamic test. Upon completion of the test, the results will be evaluated by the physician, who will discuss with the patient the results and discuss treatment options, if necessary.
The treatment method for urodynamic problems used by The Woman’s Group includes pelvic floor stimulation using Laborie technology during weekly appointments in our office. Daily exercises provide additional supportive treatment. Your physician will monitor your progress and re-assess your treatment plan if additional therapies are required.
